Cleft Palate Speech Intervention Across the Lifespan is an evidence-based resource for treatment across the lifespan that addresses the communication disorders of children born with cleft palate. Focusing on the speech needs of patients with cleft palate at various ages and stages of development, it includes state of the art information on established and instrumental treatments approaches. Each chapter provides an in-depth discussion of the treatment approach, includes case studies and discusses cultural considerations. There is also a separate chapter that presents guidelines for a clinician to use in the evaluation of treatment research. Supplementary audio files are included to illustrate certain assessment/treatment concepts.
While there are books on the market, these texts are broad and often include a single treatment approach. This book serves as a contemporary update and comprehensive guide for SLPs planning and conducting treatment for patients with cleft palate. This text can also be used in an academic setting as a supplemental text for cleft palate/craniofacial courses or a clinical resource for clinical supervisors and graduate students.

Key Features

  • Lifespan approach: This first-of-its-kind book takes a lifespan approach to cleft palate speech intervention.
  • Treatment focused: While most cleft palate texts focus on assessment, this book is treatment oriented. Instead of taking a one-size fits all approach, it gives various treatment alternatives while considering differing patient communication needs.
  • Practical resource: There is a practicality to the text that will be engaging to SLPs looking for a resource to use, because it includes a treatment rationale, the components of the treatment, and illustrative case studies.
  • Audio Files: Includes audio files to supplement learning in selected chapters.
  • Authorship: The editors and chapter authors are well-known SLPs who practice in the area of cleft palate rehabilitation and have written and published extensively in this area.
