The Behavior Assessment Battery for Adults Who Stutter is an online-only, multi-dimensional set of inter-related, evidence-based, self-report tests that provide normative data for adults. The Battery has evolved and been refined over many years and has been used with an innumerable number of clients all over the world.
These self-report test procedures provide speech-language pathologists and other professionals assisting individuals who are dysfluent, with a multi-modal view of how an adult is affected by how they feel react to, and think about their speech. The test battery contains four different assessment tools investigating the affective, behavioral and cognitive dimensions that are essential in exploring what comprises a dysfluent client. Aside from assisting in differential diagnosis, the tests' items give direction to treatment by indicating the specific targets in need of therapeutic intervention.
This manual presents four self-report test procedures that are a part of the Behavior Assessment Battery (BAB). Each of them has been standardized on American adults who do and do not stutter. More specifically, the manual provides the clinician with the information necessary to appropriately use: the Speech Situation Checklist – Emotional Reaction (SSC-ER) and Speech Disruption (SSC-SD), which is a means of evaluating a client's reported negative emotional reaction and dysfluency in a range of different speech situations; the Behavior Checklist (BCL) which helps determine the number, type and frequency with which mal-adaptive avoidance and escape responses that are secondary to the anticipation or the presence of speech difficulty are used by a client; and the Communication Attitude Test for Adults (BigCAT), a communication attitude scale that assesses an individual's speech-associated beliefs.
