Jesse Halpern
Jesse Halpern received his formal medical training in New York City. This training included a medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate, an internship at the Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, and a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
Halpern served as director of the neuro-ophthalmology service in the ophthalmology departments at the Texas Tech University, Lubbock, the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, Los Angeles, California, the University of Florida campus at Jacksonville, and currently at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport. While at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, he also was program director of the ophthalmology residency program. He received a number of awards for excellence in teaching.
Halpern also served as a consultant in neuro-ophthalmology at the Beaumont Army Hospital, El Paso, and in the ophthalmology residency programs of the White Memorial Hospital and the Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles.
In the field of international ophthalmology, he has given week-long neuro-ophthalmology courses to ophthalmology residents in residency programs in Central and South America. This includes Chile, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Panama, and Trujillo, Peru. In addition, there were five separate visits to Lima, Peru and three to Guatemala City, Guatemala
